This house of 350 m2 is on a large site of 3000m2, but had a designated ‘square’ building platform of 200 m2. This limited the design of the house to be quite compact and 2 storey. The brief was for a typical NZ Queenstown feel with a NZ rural barn design, with the use of schist as columns.
Davista's solution was to design the house as a square to ground floor with a narrow cross design to first floor, this enabled the steep roof on the first floor and lower roof pitch to the ground floor. This gave a traditional barn shape to the design.
