The design was prepared for two close families who purchased the site together to be developed in unison, The first of the projects’ complexities was obtaining multiple resource and building consents to re-contour the land, retain various slopes, rejuvenate the lake edge which included building a new jetty. This process included consultation with the Rotorua District Council, Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Te Arawa Lakes Trust.
Design Inspiration for the homes’ was taken from an old, lake edge corrugated iron boat shed. Both homes were designed to complement each other and blend into the surrounding landscape, the hilltop was recontoured to allow the new building forms to replace the existing hilltop. 40-degree pitch gable forms anchor the buildings to the site and the result is a stunning lakeside development that provides the users privacy, yet retains connectivity between the close families. The homes’ floor layouts were designed to cater to the extended family and friends to enjoy with custom made built-in bunk bedrooms. Each of the open plan kitchen and living areas extend seamlessly to the outdoor living spaces with both homes enjoying full panoramic views of Lake Rotoiti.
The Boathouse is the perfect spot to enjoy a hot summers day or snuggle in on a cold winters night.
